Posted by crcnewdelhi on May 6, 2010

Despite visiting the nearby six local police stations where refugees are residing by the team of Chin Refugee Committee (CRC), Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO), Burmese Woman Delhi (BWD), Ka Chin Refugee Committee (KRC) with support from The Other Media, Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights and   A Chan, the assault case was continually happen until today.

On 4th May, 2010 at around 9:00 pm a Chin refugee named Mr. Mi Tin Chawn, 37 years old holding UNHCR No. 09C00252 was beaten up by the three local young men around 25 years old at Chanakya Place. Mr. Ni Tin Chawn was working at a local company in Asalatpur, on his way back to home at about 9:00 pm while he was going on the street three local men walking from the front hit him at his shoulder and subsequently start to beat him unconditionally without having any words. He was punched and kicked at the skull and face and he got serious injuries on his face and skull. After a few minutes he fortunately manages to escape from their hands.  He said that he could not fight back and has no intention to fight back them. It was already 10 o’clock at night and there is no one to help him approach the hospital or clinic. He then directed to his residence at Sitapuri and after arriving there they purchase medicines from the nearby medicine shop and took it.

Mr. Ni Tin Lian and family (Wife and minor son) came to New Delhi in 2008 and were newly recognized refugees under the mandate of UNHCR. They are currently residing in RZ-G-82, Asalatpur. The family survives hardly with the monthly wage of Mr. Ni Tin Lian amounting Rs. 2,000 per month and there are in severe poverty. They are not yet receiving subsistence allowance from the UNHCR.

The safety and security of the refugees in New Delhi become more vulnerable recently, despite of the above team are trying their best to reduce the problems. If the efforts and activities of the team could not help reduce the problems faced by the refugees, we don’t know what step should be taken. Therefore, on behalf of the Chin refugees here in New Delhi, I would like to ask the help of the concerned authority like UNHCR, Government of India (GOI), NGO’s from India, the International communities and individuals.
