Posted by crcnewdelhi on May 19, 2010

On 16th May, 2010 around 11 o’clock at night the Chin refugee couple Ms. Mang Mang, 52 years old (08IND0520) and her husband Mr. Joshua, having three children went to the market at Chanakya Place (Sunday market), Uttam Nagar, to get some vegetables. It was already 11 o’clock and they were picking up the some waste vegetable thrown by the vendors. They were going to a little different direction and picking up the vegetables. While picking up the vegetables from the ground unidentified two local men approached Mrs. Mang Mang from the front and one man punched her at her face while another man pushing her bag without having any words. She collapsed on the ground and shouting for help but unfortunately no one at the incident place did not help her. When her husband heard her voice he suddenly ran to her but it was too late that her bag a long with Rs. 3,000 and her mobile phone were taken away by the culprits and were run away.

Due to poverty most of the Chin refugee used to come out late at night in search of waste vegetables thrown out by the vendors. In the locality where refugees are residing the market place always been shifting from one place to another. The market time normally started from 6 pm and the price of the vegetables or other commodities always high at the first hour and it always cheaper later. Suppose, Rs.10 worth vegetable at 6 or 7 pm can be purchased by Rs.2-3 at around 10-11 pm. So, in order to save money this couple also went for the market at this late at night.

Her husband Mr. Joshua came to New Delhi in September, 2008 and he was already recognized by the UNHCR as refugee and the rest of the family members joined him on 2009 and are waiting for Refugee Status Determination interview. The victim, Mrs. Mang Mang and their daughter Mary are going to have RSD interview on the coming 21st May, 2010, their eldest son Mr. Ngun Kung and his wife are schedule to have their RSD interview on 21st July, 2011 and Mrs. Van Sui Cer, her husband and their minor son were given RSD interview appointment on 12 December, 2011 respectively.
