Posted by crcnewdelhi on June 9, 2010
On 8th June, 2010 around 1:30 pm a Burmese (Chin) refugee named Mr. Sang Hlei Uk the holder of UNHCR No. 08IND0234 had been unconditionally and brutally beaten up by the three local people at the road side of Sitapuri, West Delhi.
Mr. Sang Hlei Uk was working at a small local company as a sweeper he came back from the company for lunch to Mahindra Park at 1:00 pm. After taking his lunch when he was going for work at 1:30 pm riding his cycle, the three local men standing in the road side unexpectedly and unconditionally attacked him. He then felt down from his running cycle and the three criminal attacked him without asking any question. There are few people around there but no one to come up to intervene the fighting. After 5 minutes the victim fortunately escaped from their hand but lost his cycle.
Accompanied by one of his friend he approached the CRC office with his injuries and the CRC help him to report the case to the SLIC and YMCA then proceeded to the Deen Dayal Upadyay (DDU) hospital for treatment. The complaint was lodged to the police at the hospital. So many refugees blood had been shed by the local people, several complaints were lodged to the police but due to the weakness of Indian Legal system, no proper action was taken until today. Unlike previous years the security problem become more and more and we were seemingly more targeted by the local people.
Regarding the security issue for the Burmese refugee here in New Delhi, we are asking the help of the concerned local authority and NGO, International communities and individuals, especially the UNHCR of New Delhi to help to reduce this kind of criminal activities and to provide the necessary assistance to the Victim.
