Posted by crcnewdelhi on September 28, 2010

A Chin refugee boy called Bawi Van, son of Mr. Hrang Uk (07C01082) was attacked by his classmate inside the school compound at MCD (Government School) Janakpuri, West Delhi on 27th September, 2010. Due to difference in appearance, language problems, culture and tradition, the Chin refugees faced severe discrimination from the local residence. Many men, women and even minor children got attacked for this racial discrimination.

On 27th September, 2010 a refugee student who attend class 2 in MCD School was badly attacked by children of his Indian classmate and sustained severe injuries on his head. The attacked happened at around 4:00 o’clock in the evening when he was coming out from the toilet. He was attacked from behind and stoned him at his head and collapsed unconsciously on the ground. Then he was taken to the staff’s room and went for medication in the nearby clinic.

The child said that his Indian classmate treated him inhumanly for many times. Sometimes they poured him with the dirty water from his head, even if he complaints to the teacher, no proper attention was given.

In this School there are about 10 Burmese (Chin) children, and they also face the same treatment by their local classmate. This family Mr. Hrang Uk, a widower and his three minor children arrived New Delhi in 2007 and already recognized refugee under the mandate of UNHCR. Mr. Hrang Uk was long suffering from asthma since the past many years and he hardly search for his family survival until today.
